Liverpool host Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa on Saturday while elsewhere Arsenal need a response and Manchester United are searching for another win in the Premier League
Paul Merson has made his predictions for all the weekend’s Premier League fixtures including an emotional encounter between Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Steven Gerrard will lead his Villa side to Anfield on Saturday afternoon and the Reds legend is expected to be given a hero’s welcome, even if he is solely focussed on earning three points.
Elsewhere that day, Arsenal are looking to bounce back from Monday’s 2-1 defeat at Everton as they host Southampton, while Manchester City face Wolves in the lunchtime kick-off and Manchester United take on Norwich in the evening game.
There are only nine top-flight fixtures in England this weekend, as Tottenham’s clash with Brighton has been postponed after a coronavirus outbreak at Spurs impacting eight players and five staff.

The action gets underway on Friday night as Watford travel a short distance to Brentford, with Merson backing the Hornets to pick up an important 2-1 win away from home in his SportsKeeda column.
Over at the Etihad, the former England playmaker anticipates City will make light work of Wolves and maintain their lead at the table’s summit with a “comfortable” 2-0 victory.
Title rivals Chelsea only have one win in their last three top-flight games, but Merson expects them to rectify that by punishing injury-struck Leeds to win 3-0.
Turning his attention to the matchweek’s most-intriguing game, he backed Villa to “cause Liverpool a few problems” but questioned whether Gerrard’s men can maintain their intensity for the full 90 minutes.
Merson concluded by predicting a 3-1 victory for the Reds, adding: “I think Liverpool have too much quality for Aston Villa and should be able to win this game.”
While he was less upbeat about Arsenal’s attacking threat, the 53-year-old tipped Mikel Arteta’s side to beat Southampton 2-0 and force themselves back into the frame for a top-four finish.
In the evening game, Merson is confident United will make it back-to-back league wins under Ralf Rangnick and predicted a 3-1 victory at Norwich.
On Sunday, West Ham were fancied to win 2-0 at Burnley, Leicester were backed to beat Newcastle 2-1 and Everton were tipped to lose 2-1 at Crystal Palace, a result which would pile more pressure on Rafael Benitez.
