A pensioner has been left terrified after she and her spaniel were attacked by a vicious “feral” dog.

Jean Sinclair needed hospital treatment and the bloody attack led to her dog sadly passing away.

The 74-year-old was taking her normal walking route on Friday (November 5) through a tenfoot in Hull.

She spotted a “Staffie-type” animal foraging in the weeds when out and about, writes HullLive.

Jean was concerned over the lack of collar and tried to move away to protect herself and King Charles Spaniel Mia, but was chased by the dog.

In the horrific scenes that unfolded, the feral animal reportedly latched onto Mia and mauled Jean as she tried to prize the dogs apart.

But it was only possible to stop the bloody attack when someone who lived nearby heard her screaming and raced to the scene.

Mia sadly passed away before she could receive veterinary treatment, and Jean was taken to A&E for the wounds to her hands.

The pensioner is now warning locals to be on the lookout for the animal, believed to still be loose.

Jean said: “He got hold of Mia’s back and I couldn’t get him off, I tried to pull them apart but the dog knocked me to the ground, it was so powerful.

“I was screaming and fortunately a gentleman came out and managed to scare the dog away and took me and Mia into his house.”

Mia was a rescue, believed to be just two years old, but was confirmed to be seven o eight years by the vet.

Sadly, she died of a heart attack as a result of the petrifying ordeal.

Jean suffered minor injuries to her finger and thumb.

Jean said: “Mia was such a lovely little dog, she didn’t really enjoy walking so always was a few steps behind me. In the end her heart just gave out because of the stress.

“I just can’t believe what happened, I’m still in shock to be honest because it all seemed to happen so fast.

“Once I’d turned away from the dog it was on us in a flash, it had knocked me to the ground which was terrifying with how powerful it was.

“While I was trying to get them apart there was blood all over but I couldn’t tell if it was mine or Mia’s, it was just horrible.”

Jean’s neighbours have set up a fund to raise money for Mia’s cremation costs, you can find the details here.
