Pep Guardiola said Bernardo Silva was the best player in Premier League after his amazing goal that won Manchester City victory.

Silva, City midfielder, netted a spectacular volley in the midst of a lightning counter attack, as the reigning champions suffered a first defeat to Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa.

Guardiola chalked up a landmark of 150 wins, praised Jack Grealish on his return to Aston Villa and also the performance of Raheem Sterling as they kept the pressure on Chelsea with Liverpool just behind.

“We were proud to win some games. It is great news. 150 victories is a big number in the Premier League, and it was achieved in a very short period of time. This is a huge compliment to the entire club. There are many more to come.

“Jack gave us what we needed. He was perfect. Playing his touches and every time he took the ball he didn’t lose the ball.

“Raheem Sterling is the player I want to praise today. He played the best game since long ago. He was outstanding and deserves all my praises.

Gerrard, Villa boss was full of praises for his team’s efforts as they fought back from 2-0 down. City were still hanging on at end and could have easily won a draw.

Gerrard said: “The second half I thought we were outstanding. We scared City at times, we were so close to taking something.

“It was a wonderful reaction. I told the players to not leave this stadium without their heads up.

“When you take over a job like this on the back of someone who is an Aston Villa supporter who took them up from the Championship to the Premier League who is one of their own it was always going to be a tough transition.
