Piers Morgan, Avid Arsenal fan, was disappointed when Emma Raducanu (British tennis ace) was seen wearing the colours of Tottenham in training
After Emma Raducanu revealed her football loyalty, the rivalry between Piers and Emma Morgan has been rekindled.
Raducanu is currently in Germany for the 2022 Stuttgart Open—which got underway on Monday—and was seen sporting a Tottenham shirt in training. It was not surprising that Morgan, an Arsenal fan and outspoken commentator, joined the conversation to offer his opinion on the matter.
The journalist—who quit his job as Good Morning Britain host in 2021—took to Twitter to express his disappointment in Raducanu’s choice of attire (and fandom). Morgan, with just under eight million followers, wrote: “Oh @EmmaRaducanu – how could you?”
After she pulled out of last year’s Wimbledon Championship, the 57-year old was critical of Raducanu. Raducanu reached the tournament’s 16th round before she retired against Ajla Tomljanovic due to breathing difficulties.
Morgan then supported John McEnroe’s seven-time major-winner comments, which suggested that the situation was a misunderstanding. “got a little bit too much”The youngster. The British broadcaster was however more harsh in his criticism.
“Ms Raducana’s (sic) a talented player but couldn’t handle the pressure and quit when she was losing badly,”The former was written News of the WorldEditor at the time. “Not ‘brave’, just a shame. If I were her, I’d tell my fans to stop abusing McEnroe, and seek his advice on how to toughen up & become a champion like he was.”
Raducanu was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic in Billie Jean King Cup. After Harriet Dart and Raducanu lost 6-1, 6-1 in the doubles decider, Great Britain’s hopes of progressing were ended.
Raducanu was bittersweet about her clay debut. She recently stated that she had never tried clay before. “no toenails left”After a hard training program, she’s still struggling with blisters. As she prepares for another clay debut in Stuttgart where Ashleigh Barty, the titleholder, will retire, she hopes to make a positive return.
Antonio Conte’s Spurs currently sit fourth in the Premier League, three points behind Arsenal. Despite only having played one more. Raducanu’s loyalty display comes at a moment when her north London club could really use it. They had fallen 1-0 at Brighton, while the Gunners dropped 1-0 at Southampton.
