U.S. Food and Drug Administration recalled a line pet toys sold at Aldi grocery chain. The agency had announcedPet Brands Products cat and dog advent calendars are choking hazards for pets. Customers are advised to check that their pet is safe.
Aldi and Pet Brands Products notified Pure Being Advent Calendars customers of their recall on December 9, but the FDA only posted the announcement Wednesday, Jan. 5. Aldi claims that only a few customers reported that the toys were unsafe for pets. Therefore, they were recalled. To return toys, customers must return them to the place of purchase or dispose of them safely.
Pure Being Cat Advent Calendars and Pure Being Dog Advent Calendars were affected. They are both available in 5.15-ounce boxes. No injuries have been reported to pets so far. It is also not known how many complaints led to this recall. Aldi and FDA advise customers to contact their veterinarian immediately if they have any problems.
Aldi, who has been steadily building momentum in the U.S. for many years, will feel a bit hurt by this recall. The company began in Germany in 1946 and opened one store. Now it has expanded to over 20 countries. The chain’s name combines Theo Albrecht’s last name and the German word. “Diskont,” meaning, discount.
