A TV movie about Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old travel blogger, is being made just one year after her murder in Wyoming.
“The Gabby Petito Story”Lifetime premieres Saturday and starts streaming Sunday.
Inside Edition got a first look at one of the scenes in the movie — a recreation of a Petito’s encounter with police in Moab, Utah, just days before her murder.
After a witness had reported a domestic dispute, cops pulled Gabby’s van over. Later, the shocking incident was revealed by police bodycam footage.
Laundrie was discovered dead after a nationwide search. According to police, he strangled Petito.
Skylar Samuels is Petito while Evan Hall plays Laundrie.
“It’s a huge responsibility for us to portray Brian and Gabby. I think an important distinction we’ve tried to make is that Brian and Gabby aren’t characters, they’re people,”Samuels stated.
Some people are wondering if it is too early to make a movie about this tragic case.
“Everyday, I think about Gabby’s parents, and I am heartsick everyday that they have to deal with every parent’s worst nightmare,”Samuels stated.
Petito is remembered by the actors wearing purple ribbons. They say they want to honor her and make a movie that does justice.
“My hope is that my portrayal of Gabby reminds them of the fierceness of their daughter, that she was a fighter, she was not a damsel in distress and that she deserved so much better,”Samuels stated.
