The Countdown genius and her Strictly pro dancer husband were performing a routine for the late Professor Hawkings at a party hosted by Jimmy Carr when disaster struck
Rachel Riley has revealed she once head butted husband Pasha Kovalev while performing a dance move in front of scientific legend Stephen Hawking.
The 35-year-old TV host and her 41-year-old Strictly dance professional husband mingled with the later Professor Hawkings – who died aged 76 in 2018 – at a dinner party hosted by Jimmy Carr.
Rachel and Pasha met on Strictly back in 2013 during season 11 of the show – before going on to marry the Russian dancer in 2019.
While at 49-year-old Jimmy’s dinner party, Rachel was surprised to discover the fellow guests were fans of Strictly and requested she and Pasha perform a dance – when disaster struck.
The TV star is quoted by the Mail on Sunday saying: “They were Strictly fans and requested a preview of the routine we’d only been doing for two days.
“I went down, bent my back all the way, then sprang up – but accidentally butted Pasha.”
While Rachel inadvertently butted heads with her now-hubby, there have been reports for weeks that she has been knocking personalities against Countdown host Anne Robinson.
The maths whizz reportedly had her microphone switched off by 77-year-old Anne behind the scenes of their Channel 4 show – after the former Weakest Link host took issue with Rachel chatting with contestants between takes.
There were even reports that Rachel had threatened to quit the hit gameshow as she prepared to leave the show to begin her current maternity leave – after welcoming a daughter named Noa last month.
Anne attempted to smooth over relations last week as she praised her co-star in an interview.
Anne opened up to Rachel Johnson – who grilled her about the backstage bust ups.
Far from throwing Rachel – or Susie – under the bus, Anne praised her co-star for her impressive mathematical skills.
Anne said: “They’re brilliant – both of them actually. Every time I’m astonished how she [Rachel] does that adding up and subtracting – just seconds, absolutely seconds, amazing.
“I hope I’m always described as difficult, awkward, tricky, impatient, menopausal, any sort of pejorative, grumpy.’ When asked about bitchy, she said ‘not particularly – hard to please.”
While Rachel herself opened up about the headlines surrounding the alleged fall-out that same week.
She told Lorraine: “Anne’s not the cuddliest person in the world, but it’s just a different show now, she’s making it her own.
“She’s getting some stuff out of the contestants – sometimes it’s barbed, sometimes it’s funny, it’s just got a different flavour.”
Rachel and Pasha announced the arrival of their daughter, Noa, 15 days after her due date.
Proud mum Rachel wrote online: “She’s totally adorable and her big sister Maven has already tried welcoming her to the world by offering Oatly and pickles, we think that’s a good sign.”
The couple already have a daughter named Maven – who turns two-years-old later this month.
