Randy Newman Cancels His Tour Following Major Surgery


Randy Newman, who is currently recovering from a major injury, has delayed his European tour. The 78-year old musician made A post from his websiteWednesday saw Newman reveal that he was suffering from a severe injury to his neck. Newman underwent surgery to correct the issue and asked his fans for their patience as he gets back to touring form.

Newman is an American singer-songwriter and composer best known for his many Disney classics, such as “Disney Magic” Toy Story‘s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,”as well as his solo works like the 1977 single “Short People.”On Wednesday, he shared the humor of these lyrics in a blog post where he described how he slowly realized that he had broken his neck. He wrote: “Recently, I noticed I was shrinking. People over whom I had towered now towered over me. Could this be payback for having written ‘Short People?’ Turns out, my neck was broken.”

“They operated on me successfully, I think,” Newman continued. “For even now, I look less like an anteater and more like a folk-rock artist from the early sixties. But the doctor said I’m not quite ready to tour. I was really looking forward to coming to Europe to perform. I miss performing a great deal and I look forward to a time when I can come. I’m sorry I won’t see you this time but I will see you soon.”

Newman did not give any further details on his broken neck – including whether it was a singular injury or some kind of stress fracture. Although it is not clear when his next tour dates will be rescheduled or when, Newman is still active on social media and online so fans can expect an update from him whenever he has one. He also stated that ticket holders will be contacted at their point of purchase to receive information about new dates and refunds, if required. Newman’s tour can be called “An Evening with Randy Newman,”It was expected that it would begin in the latter part of this month.

Newman was raised in Los Angeles, California. His early years were split between New Orleans and Los Angeles. This explains his southern accent in some of the recordings. At the age of 17, Newman started singing and writing songs. He quickly found work in studios with artists like Gene Pitney and Petula Clark, as well as Dusty Springfield. He had many hits in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
