Recall of Vegan Milk for Actually Containing Real milk


A recall of a popular milk product has been urgently issued. It is time to look over your fridge. Coles Supermarkets Pty Ltd recalled its Coles Organic Unsweetened Cocoa Milk on April 8. This was due to the undeclared allergen. The product contains milk. It is also incorrectly labeled vegan friendly.

The recall is based in Australia. The affected product was sold at Coles supermarkets in Victoria, Coles Local, Coles Online in Victoria, Coles Lavington and Deniliquin stores in New South Wales, as well as Coles Lavington and Albury stores. The product comes in a carton with the words “Recall” written on it. “Organic Coconut Milk”Print the above “unsweetened”Front. The Best Before Date for affected milk is “31/3/23.”

For people suffering from a milk allergy, the undeclared allergen could be dangerous and possibly life-threatening. The symptoms can vary from one person to another and may occur within a few hours to several days after drinking milk or any milk products. Milk allergy symptoms can range from mild to severe. They include wheezing and vomiting as well as hives and digestive problems. Anaphylaxis is a potentially life-threatening reaction caused by milk consumption. It narrows the airways and blocks breathing. Mayo Clinic says that “milk is the third most common food – after peanuts and tree nuts – to cause anaphylaxis.”

Food Standards Australia and Coles Supermarkets Pty Ltd said those who have a milk allergy or milk intolerance – which, unlike an allergy, doesn’t involve the immune system and presents itself in symptoms including digestive problems – should not consume the recalled product. Consumers may return the recalled Coles Organic Unsweetened Coconut Cream Milk to their place of purchase for a full credit or refund by calling Coles Online Customer Care at 1800-455-400

This recall comes after a February recall for raw whole milk. After it was discovered that the raw milk could have been contaminated with E. coli (which can cause serious illness), Toboton Creek Dairy in Yelm, Washington, issued a voluntary recall. The recall, which was very narrow in scope, resulted in no illness.
