The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and co-written with Peter Craig. It will be a sort of reboot for the series. It is unclear if the film franchise will launch a cinematic universe similar to the MCU and the DCEU. It takes Batman back to his roots, with a street-level campaign to combat violent crime. This is not apocalyptic.

It will feature some of the most iconic scenes from cinema history Batman Comic book arcs published to date, The Long Halloween, Year One Ego. It will likely focus more on Batman’s detective skills than other movies. It takes place in Batman’s second year of fighting crime when he is around 30 years old.

Technically speaking, this movie was created and directed by Ben Affleck in 2014. He played the Caped Crusader role. Early reports indicated that the version would have seen Affleck as Batman facing Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke. But Affleck eventually left the movie, and it was completely remade.

In my comments a while back regarding not being part of the DCEU, I referred to The Batman as a story that focuses explicitly on Batman.

Reeves made the movie more detached from DCEU films, making it less popular with movie-goers. Reeves has not said that the movie is a part of the same story, but he did tweet in 2017 that the movie was. “wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories – that it would be a BATMAN story.”

Based on the trailer and fans’ reaction online, this will be a welcome restart for Batman. The BatmanPremieres Friday, March 4, 2022.
