Christmas is coming early for Samsung phone owners, as the company plans to roll out a hidden feature to supercharge your phone performance.
The feature, called RAM Plus, boosts the memory of your Samsung phone by as much as 4GB. First introduced in the fancy Galaxy A52s 5G, it has since been rolled out to the Galaxy Z Fold3.
RAM Plus works by using internal storage as ‘virtual memory, increasing the speed and capacity of how the phone operates. This is similar to how Windows laptops keep performance ticking over if there is too much software running.
You’d have to be doing some pretty intensive tasks to notice much of a difference though, as the likes of the Z Fold3 has 12GB of RAM already.
RAM Plus has been rolled out with a simple software update, and wasn’t present on the Z Fold previously, which means other lower-spec Samsung handsets are likely to be eligible for the update.
These would benefit more from the feature as they have lower capacity memory.
You can find out if your Samsung phone has access to the new RAM feature by following the steps below. It’s worth checking back on it in a few weeks.
- Open your Settings
- Tap ‘Device Care’
- Tap ‘Memory’
There is currently no way of increasing or decreasing the memory size of RAM Plus.
RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It’s a lot like short-term memory and processes tasks for different applications as you use them. The more RAM you have, the smoother your phone experience will be.
2021 has been a bumper year for Samsung phones, with massive price cuts applied to its flagship phones such as the Fold, the Flip, and the S-series.
The South Korean company has upgraded its handsets with some lightning-fast new chips, as well as some interesting screen technology such as the iconic folding screen.
