Selena Gomez reacted to an internet troll when she was forced to defend an online joke about drinking after receiving a kidney transplant.
The actress and singer, who is 29 years old, has had several health issues in her past and has had to have surgeries.
The star shared a humorous video in which she made a joke about alcohol.
The video in question – shared via TikTok and clearly marked that it was a “joke” – featured Selena grimacing and looking concerned while a doctor in a video declared: “The CDC defines ‘heavy drinking’ as 15 or more drinks a week for men, and eight or more drinks per week for women.”
The acronym CDC stands for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a US government agency.
Selena’s joke sparked something of a backlash from some fans who expressed concern for her health due to the fact she endured a kidney transplant in 2017.
The star underwent the procedure – and received an organ from her best friend, Francia Raisa – after she was diagnosed with lupus before 2014.
MailOnline claims one fan savagely attacked the star writer in a post that has since been deleted. “So one of your best friends gives you her kidney and you continue to drink excessively.”
According to some, the aggrieved fan added: “Damn Selena.”
However, the chart topping star quickly responded to criticism by declaring: “It was a joke ass,”The thread was not gone completely before.
Even though her TikTok posting clearly stated that she intended the video as a joke, and her dismissal for the troll, others continue to question her motives.
One fan said: “Even if it was a joke, I wouldn’t post it. People already think she has a drinking problem, even after surgery, so it’s adding fuel to their fire.”
Another follower wrote: “If it’s a joke why do u keep making tiktoks about how u drink a lot.”
Selena is now facing dark news from her mother Mandy Teefey. She was recently told that Selena had only weeks to live due to double pneumonia. Selena miraculously survived.
The 44-yearold said it was a “miracle”She survived by uploading shocking photos to social media, telling her followers about her near-death experience.
She wrote: “I was told I had days to live. I had miracle Drs and love from my family and friends to keep me going.
“I fought. The Drs fought and I was one of the few who made it out.”
Mandy was supported by many fans, one even commenting: “Haters gonna hate. Don’t let them get to you Mandy. U are amazing. You are Rare and Unique. And we love you so much. Slay Queen.”
