With two weeks to go until the Strictly Come Dancing final, this year’s contestants could be instantly out of the competition as Omicron variant has introduced a new rule change.
According to reports, bosses have issued that with the final drawing closer, anyone testing positive will be automatically disqualified from the competition.
Up until the new rule change, celebrity contestants and their dance partners were given a grace period if they were to test positive for Covid-19, as pairs were allowed to have a week recovery if they contracted the virus.
However, this will no longer be the case for the remainder of the competition as the rule change will mean anyone testing positive for Covid will be out of the competition.
AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington, John Whaite and Johannes Radebe, Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu, and Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice have been informed by bosses to tighten their bubbles rules to avoid the risk of contracting Covid which could see them instantly eliminated from the competition.
Each pair would have to be highly vigilant as any of the favorites could risk missing out on the final and face being instantly eliminated.
During this year’s competition, contestants and panelists have had to remain isolated due to contracting or coming into contact with the virus.
Comedian Judi Love and McFly star Tom Fletcher both had time away from the competition for positive Covid results and panelists Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse had both been forced to skip shows.
The warning came ahead of the dramatic quarter-final episode last weekend, which included a lot of action and some fright.
In their high-energy performance, many viewers favourite, former Bake Off winner John Whaite had dropped his partner Johannes, leaving fans frightened and in shock.
In a previous series, former boxer Nicola Adams and her partner Katya Jones left the contest early on in the competition when Jones tested positive for the virus.
Journalist and Strictly contest Dan Walker was the latest contest to leave the competition on Sunday evening.
While we still have a few eliminations to go before knowing which couples will make it to the final, viewers favorites are starting to make it look like Rose and Giovanni have it in the bag. However, this new rule change means anything could happen.
The remaining couples will be dancing for a place in the final on Saturday, December 18.
