Susanna Reid could not fight back the tears on Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain (June 14).

Manny Ruiz and David Badilli joined the host to discuss the Grenfell Tower tragedy that ruined many lives five years ago.

Brave David had been a firefighter and helped many escape from the burning blaze.

He had been tasked with rescuing Manny’s 12-year-old niece Jessie – who sadly did not make it out alive from the devastating fire.

David was dispatched to the 20th-floor to rescue the girl, but the young girl had already climbed to the top of the building to escape the flames. There was no way for her to escape.

Jessie’s tragic story brought Jessie and John closer together. They now have close friendships, with the pair appearing together on ITV to share their terrible situation.

Susanna was moved by the heartbreaking story and felt overwhelmed. She praised the couple for their efforts. “courage”And “bravery”.

She became choked up and addressed the men. “I can see how hard it is to hear… it’s hard for me and all I did was report on it here in the studio.”

Susanna went on: “I can’t imagine how hard it is for you to listen, I know you’re friends you and David, and David at the time, you didn’t realise you were looking for your friend’s niece.

“But to find out someone was in the building trying to get Jessica back and she’d done what she thought was the safe thing to do, meant she was getting further into danger. It’s just hideous.”

The presenter was filled with admiration for Manny and David, who were fighting for justice for all those affected by the tragic situation that claimed many lives.

They heard her say: “I admire you both for it.

“We are so grateful that you’re able to talk about it, it is so important.”

Manny and David explained to Richard and Susanna that they would ideally like for the building to be completely knocked down and turned into a memorial park for those still grieving – which the host’s agreed would be a touching and fitting tribute.

GMB airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
