Music lovers gathered to pay tribute to Taylor Hawkins at Bogotá’s Festival Estéreo Picnic as news broke Friday that the Foo Fighters drummer had died just hours before the band was scheduled to perform at the festival. Eric Burton, Black Pumas, announced the sad news to the crowd and asked for a moment’s silence. Then, he called for applause and a moment to remember Hawkins’ legacy.
An honorary tribute was also established at the festival’s mainstage, where fans could pay their respects. However, a doctor tried to revive him. “there was no response, and the patient was declared deceased,” according to Bogotá’s District Department of Health. The Office of the Attorney General of Colombia Twitter announcementA preliminary toxicology test was conducted Saturday and found that Hawkins had been ingesting opioids, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and THC. Although the office has not yet made a decision on the cause of the death, they stated that the investigation continues.
Although plans for Hawkins to be honored more formally at his funeral service have not been announced, tributes continue to roll in from Hawkins’s colleagues and friends around the world.
