Taylor Hawkins’ Son pays Tribute to His Father by Covering a Foo Fighters Classic

Taylor Hawkins passed away in March, but his memory continues to live on. Hawkins’ oldest child, Oliver Shane Hawkins (from the local band The Alive), performed one of their hits over the Fourth of July weekend. “My Hero.”Oliver dedicated his performance in memory of his father, who was a drummer with the Foo Fighters until his death.

E! NewsReports state that Oliver played the drums while The Alive performed the 1997 Foo fighters song. It was a fitting tribute that took place at a Laguna Beach blockparty. The Alive posted two videos on Instagram from the event, including one showing Oliver’s drum skills. The caption of the post included a reminder that the band wanted to share the video. “special thanks”To the 16-year-old for “sitting in.”

Oliver isn’t the only one who has displayed his talent on stage. E! News reported that he had played on numerous occasions with his father and the Foo fighters throughout his life. In 2018, he performed with Chevy Metal, Hawkins’ cover band, at a Los Angeles benefit concert. The Alive’s latest performance comes just three months after the Foo Fighters drummer died. Hawkins died in March at the age 50 in Bogota Colombia. He was scheduled to perform alongside the Foo Fighters at the Festival Estéreo Picnic, which was taking place in the Colombian capital.

Hawkins and his wife share three children — Oliver, 16, Annabelle, 13, and Everleigh, 8. “Taylor’s endearing spirit and deep love of music will live on forever through the collaborations he so enjoyed having with other musicians and the catalog of songs he contributed to and created,”Alison wrote. “In celebration of his life, it is now up to all of us who loved him most to honor Taylor’s legacy and the music he gave us.”
