In connection to the shooting incident that resulted in the death of Brian Robinson, a Washington Commanders rookie runningback, a teenage boy was taken into custody. Police have announced that the 17-year old has been charged by police with assault with intent to rob while being armed. According to ESPN. Due to his minor status, his name is not being released to the public.
According to TMZ SportsPolice are still looking for another suspect in the case. He was seen at the crime scene brandishing a gun. Robinson, 23 was shot twice in the right leg on Aug. 28 in northeast Washington. He had surgery and was out of action for the first month. Robinson made his NFL debut in October 2009. He ran for 22 years and had nine carries against the Tennessee Titans. Robinson is now the team’s leading running back.
“We have to be smart about how we’re gonna handle him,”Ron Rivera, Commanders’ head coach, said: The official website for the team. “We gotta handle those expectations. We also gotta handle, what he’s gonna go through physically and mentally. It is a different set of circumstances. I don’t know of any other player that I’ve coached that’s had to go through this.”
Robinson spoke out about his love of football and how it made him feel to be able to play again after being shot. “I’ve been playing the game for almost 18 years of my life,” Robinson stated. “It’s just always been football to me. But now it’s my life, and I realize how much that I put into this game and bonding through this game. It just means so much to me.”Robinson also added: “I just wanna keep making progress, keep making strides in the right direction. Coming in here, finding ways to get better, get my body feeling better, get more involved into the game plan week in and week out and just help my team win.”
After playing college football for Alabama Crimson Tide, Robinson was selected by Commanders in the 3rd round. Robinson, who played college football for Alabama, was named All-SEC First Team 2021. This helped the team win two national championships. Robinson ran for 1,343 yards in 2021 and scored 14 touchdowns.
