The new Princess Diana film has caused outrage with royal fans after it strips her of “respect and dignity.”
The upcoming movie about the Princess premiered last night and caused instant anger among royal experts.
Spencer’s movie shows Princess Di as an emotionally unstable woman who self harms and breaks down in front of a young Prince William.
Diana is portrayed at the height of a mental health crisis as she battles bulimia.
The film shows a graphic scene of the Princess fantasizing about taking her own life by throwing herself down the stairs to choke on a pearl necklace given to her by her husband, Prince Charles.
“William and Harry will be outraged and hurt about this. They will find it horrible that their mother is being portrayed in such a huge movie this way.”
Royal biographer and expert Penny Junor agreed.
She said: “It is unnecessarily gratuitous.
“Poor William is all I can say.
“And let’s leave Diana with a shred of respect and dignity.
“I know William was there when she was unhappy, but it sounds to me the movie is factually incorrect.”
One scene in the film shows Diana’s self-harm attempts after she locks herself in the bathroom, where a young William is close to tears and begs his mother to join him for dinner.
In the new film, Diana is played by Twilight series actress Kristen Stewart.
The 31-year-old star was wearing a strapless silver gown at the premiere in London.
Spencer has been tipped as an Oscar candidate mainly because of Kristen’s portrayal of the Princess.
Princess William has previously slammed the BBC for “exploiting” his mother after the 1995 Martin Bashir Panorama interview scandal.
He said: “It effectively established a false narrative which, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialized by the BBC and others.”
