According to Utah officials, a tunnel he had dug in the sand dune at his state park collided with him inside.
The incident took place on Saturday night at a campground in Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. According to the State Parks Division.
A family member noticed the tunnel was falling and began digging. Then, Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived with shovels to locate Ian Spendlove.
After about 20 minutes, Spendlove was located about 6.5 feet beneath the sand, authorities said.
The statement stated that Responders confirmed Spendlove had pulse and flown him to St. George Hospital and Salt Lake City. He was declared dead on Sunday after he failed to regain brain function by Sunday.
“The Utah Division of State Parks extends our condolences to Ian Spendlove’s friends and family impacted by this tragedy,”According to officials, the statement was approved. “The incident remains under investigation.”
