Over the weekend, a vigil was held for the Texas boy who was found dead in his apartment almost a year after he was shot to death by police. After his siblings called authorities, police found the body of the boy in an apartment.
Houston came together Saturday for Kendrick Lee’s 8th birthday celebration. ABC 13 reported.
The community spoke, placed balloons and photos at the vigil in front of the apartment where the boy lived with three siblings. Local station KHOU reported.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that Gloria Williams, 35 is being charged with injury of a child by way of omission and tampering, a human corpse, failure to provide proper supervision and failure to give medical care. Brian Coulter (31), is her boyfriend and charged with murder. Gonzalez said that Gonzalez could add more charges.
Gonzalez claimed that Coulter is being accused of beating the boy to death in November 2020. ABC 13 reported.
Williams, who is behind bars after her arrest Tuesday night, told KHOU reporter Grace White last week, “I’m sorry. I didn’t do it.”
Williams is represented in court by a public lawyer. Inside Edition Digital reached out for comment from Williams but has not heard back.
ABC 6 reported that Coulter made his first appearance in court Thursday afternoon. The judge resigned for personal reasons.
According to reports, investigators involved in the case may be traumatized. ABC 6.
Coulter’s next appearance, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office is December 15. He will then plead guilty.
Despite reports saying that Coulter bonded out over the weekend, Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Inside Edition Digital that he is still in custody and behind bars.
Inside Edition Digital has reached out to the county clerk to find out who Coulter’s attorney is and has not heard back.
Child Protective Services now has custody of the children left behind, who are aged 15, 10 and 7. Investigators suspect that some children may have had different fathers. ABC 13 reported that one father has died and the other has not been in the photo and is not in contact with his child.
KHOU reports that Williams has a total of six kids ranging from 7 to 17.
According to authorities, at least one child who lived in the abandoned apartment in squalor had special needs. None of the children had been to school since May 2020.
Click 2 Houston reported that Williams and her boyfriend left the apartment with the children and their surviving siblings five to six months after the death of the eight-year-old boy.
