“Earlier this week Amy Grant was in an accident after hitting a pothole while riding her bicycle with a friend (note: she was wearing a helmet),”The caption says. “Following a brief hospitalization where she was treated for her injuries, doctors have ordered additional recovery time at home for Amy, where she is now resting comfortably.”
Both singers were forced to cancel their August shows after the accident. Gill had to cancel three shows starting on Thursday night. Gill’s Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte was cancelled, and Friday and Saturday night shows at Capitol One Hall in Tysons were also cancelled.
Grant has postponed additional dates while she recovers. Grant has canceled all of her August concerts, including those in Knoxville and Chattanooga as well as Johnson City, Wilmington, and Johnson City. These shows were rescheduled for August 18, 19, and 20. According to BillboardGill’s three dates were not rescheduled. “Unfortunately the show is not expected to be rescheduled at this time,”Gill’s representative spoke to outlets. “Ticket refunds should be requested at point of purchase.”
Although the injury is regrettable, it was a small part of Grant’s celebration year. The Kennedy Center Honors ceremony will honor the long-time singer. Tania Leon, Gladys Knight and U2 will be joined by Grant. Her hit album Behind the Eyes will be 25 years old. Grant will celebrate with Gladys Knight and Tania Leon. A 30-song triple vinyl edition featuring the original 12 tracks, 18 bonus tracks, and two brand-new tracks will be available.
Grant and Gill are married since May 2000. The couple will continue their annual Christmas at Ryman residency, despite the injury and recovery. Gill will be back on the road for a four-night Ryman performance on Aug. 4. This performance is part the venue’s 130th anniversary celebration.
