Only three races remain before the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. Eight drivers are competing for the last four spots. The Round of 8 begins Sunday with South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The race will begin at 2:30 pm. ETYou can watch the broadcast on NBC and stream it on the NBC Sports App.
Chase Elliott and Joey Logano are qualified for the next round. Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell (with Chase Briscoe), Ryan Blaney, William Bryon. Denny Hamlin and Denny Hamlin were also eligible. Elliott was the winner of the most races with five wins, while Blaney is still without a checkered flag. Logano and Elliott are the only drivers to have won Cup Series titles.
“I think it just shows the competitiveness across the whole field,” Blaney said. per NASCAR.com. “There’s a lot of guys who have not made it — have ever been in the playoffs, number one — and have never made it to the Round of 8. … I think it just shows the depth of talents across the whole field. You know, you’ve seen champions get eliminated from the playoffs already, and there’s a lot of new faces here that are not champions right now that have a shot to go to Phoenix and contend.
Hamlin is a driver to watch on Sunday as he enjoys competing in Vegas. In his last four starts at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Hamling has three top-five finishes including a win in last year’s playoff race. It would not be surprising to see Hamlin win on Sunday and put himself in a position to claim his first Cup Series title.
“All of them make me feel amazing.” Hamling said about the next round of the playoffs. “They all fit our strengths perfectly. I’m excited. We have been strong in the intermediates this year, and we tested Homestead just a few weeks back. We had a positive test at Martinsville. Even though we were not able to qualify in the spring, it was a great experience and I am proud of what we have learned. We have to qualify well at the event, and track position will be critical. We are excited about the next round, and it’s time for us to get to work.
