Many people are already thinking about Black Friday deals as they prepare and serve Thanksgiving Day meals. Although holiday shopping used to be a one-day affair, it has become a week-long affair that begins in October. The coronavirus epidemic put an end to the stores being open on Thanksgiving Day 2020. This trend will continue into 2021. Some stores however are open and ready to welcome customers looking to get an early start on holiday shopping, or for a quick grab for something for Thanksgiving dinner.
Travelers will be grateful to 7-Eleven being open on Thanksgiving, which means they can stop by the gas station to grab a quick snack. Many pharmacies and supermarkets are also open on Thanksgiving. Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar General are open on Thursday. Hours will be shorter, however, with Dollar General opening from 1 a.m. through 9 p.m. Outdoor lovers can also visit Bass Pro and Cabela’s. They open at 9 am.
Residents of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine will not be able to shop on Black Friday if they need to grab a last-minute item for Thanksgiving or to stock up on supplies. These states have their own laws that prohibit stores from closing on Thanksgiving.
Target is among the stores that are closed on Thanksgiving Day. Target announced Monday that it would be closing permanently, not just for this Thanksgiving but all future Thanksgivings. Brian Cornell, Target CEO, stated in an email to employees that: “What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard – one that recognizes our ability to deliver on our guests’ holiday wishes both within and well beyond store hours.”Cornell continued to share the news with his employees “don’t have to wonder whether this is the last Thanksgiving you’ll spend with family and friends for a while, because Thanksgiving store hours are one thing we won’t ‘get back to’ when the pandemic finally subsides.”Target will remain open on Black Friday. However the retailer has already begun offering Black Friday deals.
