Alex’s great-grandfather founded a law office in Hampton, S.C., over a century ago.

Alex’s younger son Paul and Maggie, Alex’s spouse, were gunned down at Hampton’s sprawling estate. The heinous crime was not committed and no one was ever arrested. This brought about intense scrutiny of Alex’s entire life. Alex’s story made national headlines last summer and was reprinted months later. According to reports, he was shot while changing his flat tire on a rural road.

Per however, Yahoo NewsHe claimed that the shooting was an elaborate ploy to make his only and eldest son Buster Murdaugh $10 million from his insurance policy. According to an affidavit “Mr. Murdaugh supplied Mr. Smith with a firearm and directed Mr. Smith to shoot him in the head.”The situation got worse and Alex was taken into custody for insurance fraud in September. This was just the beginning.

Alex did not sustain any serious injuries from the bullet that was shot in his suicide-by-hire plot. The incident led to Alex being arrested and released on a $20,000 bail.

He was released from jail and went straight to rehabilitation, where he was again arrested. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division issued a statement. New York PostAlex’s arrest.

SLED revealed that Alex was released from Orlando, Fla.’s facility after he was “taken into custody on two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses tied to the 2018 mysterious death of his longtime housekeeper Gloria Satterfield.”Alex is currently being held at the Richland County Detention Center, Columbia, S.C. without bond

Alex was also sued by those who were injured in a boating accident that killed his youngest son, Paul Murdaugh.

Mallory Beach was also killed in the accident. Paul, a teenager, was charged with two counts each of boating while under the influence and causing bodily harm and one count of boating while under the influence causing the death.

Alex faces criminal and civil charges, as well as two criminal cases.

Alex granted Buster power-of-attorney before he was sent to jail. Alex has been charged with a criminal offense. According to WCTI ABC NewsAlex claims to have been “engaged in repeated dishonesty, deception, and fraud. He has shown that he will go to extraordinary lengths to misappropriate, steal, transfer or otherwise dispose of money in a manner that benefits him or his family, with complete disregard for the interests of third persons.”
