Mauricio Pochettino’s lack of trophies’ is a disadvantage as Manchester United will appoint Erik ten Hag to replace the Paris Saint-Germain boss.

The Red Devils reached a verbal deal with Ajax’s manager, who is now set to sign a three year contract at Old Trafford. After the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskajer, it appeared that Pochettino was the obvious choice.

Ten Hag became the preferred candidate as United began to search for a new head coach. United was impressed by his energetic style of play, but it was his ability to build two great Ajax sides during his five-year tenure that made him so attractive given the enormity of the task before him at Old Trafford.

The AthleticAccording to club officials, Pochettino’s CV was impressive, with his experience as a Tottenham manager in the Premier League, his ability to improve players and give youngsters a chance, and the loyalty that players have shown him. His ‘lackof trophies’ as a manager was what harmed him. He has only one French Cup, and one domestic Super Cup.

Ten Hag has two Dutch league and cup doubles. He will finish the current campaign with the Amsterdam giants. He will then join United, where he will be a major part of the summer rebuild.
