Why Neil Gaiman Doesn’t Feel Confident about Sandman’s Future


The Sandman is a hit—but that might not be enough.

Despite being No. The No. 1 show on Netflix globally, with more than 127 million hours watched from Aug. 8 through Aug. 14, the second season of this long-awaited series is not a certain thing.

Why? “Because Sandman is a really expensive show,” The SandmanCreator Neil GaimanTwitter:. “And for Netflix to release the money to let us make another season we have to perform incredibly well.”

He continued, “So yes, we’ve been the top show in the world for the last two weeks. That still may not be enough.”

The Mindy Kaling-produced Never Have I Ever was No. Season 2 was ranked No. 2, with just over 55,000,000 hours of viewings during that time period. It was followed by season 3 Locke & Key at No. 3, season four Stranger Things at No. Season four and No. Virgin River at No. 5.

The SandmanIt was viewed more than 200 million times in the nine days following its Aug. 5 release.
