Zayn Malik releases statement after accusation from Yolanda Hadid

Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid had a “very destructive relationship” prior to his alleged clash with Yolanda, it has been reported.

The former One Direction star, 28, denied on Thursday that he had struck Gigi’s mother following an argument, but “agreed to not contest” claims being made in US media that he had hit reality TV star Yolanda.

It has now been reported that the couple, who share 13-month-old daughter Khai together, have “silently separated” after struggling with “problems for a while”.

A source told Us Weekly that it is “much better” that they have separated as they had a “very destructive relationship when they were together romantically”.

They added: “Gigi stands by Zayn’s ability to coparent well.”

Gigi and Zayn had a very on-off relationship since 2015 before reuniting in January 2020, with it being revealed three months later that Gigi was expecting a baby.

Zayn issued a statement last week regarding the alleged incident with Yolanda, which read: “I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private.”

Earlier on Thursday, Zayn took to Twitter to post a statement.

He wrote: “As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter to grow up in.

“A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart.”

He then added: “In an effort to protect that space for [my daughter] I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago.

“This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been ‘leaked’ to the press.

“I am hopeful though for healing for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves.”
