A royal commentator has drawn comparisons between Prince Harry’His recent Today Show interview and the famous Oprah Winfrey chat that he hosted with his wife Meghan Markle last summer.

Harry was interviewed by CBS in the USA while attending Invictus Games at The Hague.

The prince addressed many points including the welcome with “open arms”to California and suggesting that he had made a stop-over in The Hague to visit the UK to ensure that Queen Elizabeth is. “protected”.

Reflecting on the interview, however, Palace Confidential podcast, the Mail’s diary editor Richard Eden criticised the ex-royal for failing to offer more certainty about his relationship with the institution in the future.

“To me it seemed really calculating. Harry’s now married to an actress, and I get the impression that he’s given guidance, tips, he’s prepared for this type of interview,”He suggested.

“It was meant to be about the Invictus Games, there’s some really fascinating stories there, but oh no, it’s all about Harry.

“Everything he said, the calculated digs at his family, it was a real hark back to the Oprah interview, and it seems to be very much calculated and planned for, I think.”

During the interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, Harry and Meghan made a number of allegations against the Firm, including a claim that one unnamed royal had made comments about the colour of their son Archie’s skin.

Richard acknowledged that this was a distance between the Sussexes, the royal institution, but he also stressed that the implications could have been very damaging to the monarchy.

A royal expert claimed Harry’s recent interview “harks back”Listen to his controversial chat on Oprah Winfrey

“I was left furious after that Oprah interview, particularly by that, they threw those accusations out there and what was so damaging was, it was left hanging,” he continued.

“They sort of suggested that the Royal Family was racist without naming anyone, and that led to all sorts of speculation and it has ever since.”

And, with Harry making a reference to wanting to “protect”Richard said that the prince was following the same path as before when he interviewed the Queen.

He also added: “Everyone’s talking about,’what does he mean by ‘protection’? Who’s looking after the Queen?… we’re all trying to see who he’s having a dig at.”

Harry and Meghan met the Queen for the first time together since their royal exit.

Tessa Dunlop, who was also speaking on the panel, disagreed, suggesting that the Duke of Sussex isn’t “capable”Imagine being so calculated during a live TV interview.

“I think what he’s very aware of is the need to walk a fine line, a tightrope, and that’s super challenging. And you saw him sort of duck and box,”She made the observation.

“It was an extraordinarily uncomfortable watch I felt, from that point of view, but I don’t think it was cynical or calculated.”
